PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an interlaced image from the progressive scanning camera of the electronic camera within the NTSC standard scanning time without requiring any expensive component. ;SOLUTION: The interlaced image is generated from the scanning sensor 20 by using a mosaic color filter array pattern. A timing and control part 27 operates the camera in high-quality scanning still mode for still image recording and in dummy interlacing video resolution mode wherein a color viewfinder display 10 is driven. In the latter mode, a timing and control part 27 operates the fast dump structure 72 on the sensor 20 to remove successive image charge lines more than twice as many as image charge lines transferred to the read horizontal register 70 of the sensor, thereby generating a line pattern matching an interlaced read.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
