PURPOSE: To cut a curved surface of a workpiece by a rotary machining tool (called compound R cutter) having a circular arc-shaped cutting edge curved inward to be mounted in a 5-axis NC machine tool having turning two axes and orthogonal three axes. ;CONSTITUTION: In the case of grinding a surface 211 curved outward a xvorkpiece 2 by a compound R cutter 1, based on a permissible machining residual height Δh or the like in a circular arc direction P of the workpiece 2, a number of times of step feed to the circular arc direction P of the compound R cutter 1 is set. In a condition that a circular arc end 51b of the compound R cutter 1 is matched with a circular arc end 211b of the workpiece 2, the compound R cutter 1 is moved in a bus line direction (direction orthogonal to paper surface), to perform machining a partially curved surface, next in a condition that the other circular arc end 51a of the compound R cutter 1 is matched with the other circular arc end 211a of the workpiece 2, machining is moved in a generating line direction, to machine a total curved surface of the workpiece 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
