PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary tool contact detecting device of a finishing machine for accurately measuring the length and outside diameter in the process of rotation of a rotary tool mounted on a spindle rotated at high speed.;SOLUTION: The rotary tool contact detecting device 1 of the finishing machine includes: a disc-like contact 2 coming into contact with a rotary tool 22, a setting member 3 for setting the contact 2; a vibration sensor 4 for detecting the contact vibration when the contact 2 stored in the setting member 3 and the rotary tool 22 come into contact with each other. Since the contact is formed disc-like, the rotary tool is brought into contact with a flat surface part and side part, whereby the length and the outside diameter of the rotating rotary tool are measured.
