PURPOSE: To obtain both a twisted yarn (alternately twisted yarn) having different twisting directions in the longer direction of the yarn at fixed intervals and a twisted yarn (twisted yarn having the number of twists gradually increasing) having the number of twists increasing and decreasing by stages and to provide a means for producing these twisted yarns. ;CONSTITUTION: The characteristic of an alternately twisted yarn is that regions A and B having different twisting directions alternately exist at fixed intervals and not twisting regions can exist at parts of inversions of the twisting directions. A twisted yarn having the number of twists gradually increasing is obtained by twisting (additional twisting) the alternately twisted yarn in one direction at the number of twists equal to or larger than the maximum number of twists and comprises regions, which have a fixed twisting direction and the number of twists increasing and decreasing by stages, at fixed intervals. The alternately twisted yarn can be produced by inserting an undrawn yarn taken out from a bobbin into a twisting apparatus intermittently revolving in one direction, and then winding and heat-setting. Woven or knitted fabric obtained by using the alternately twisted yarn or the twisted yarn having the number of twists gradually increasing can generate irregular craping by post-treatment processing and readily produce sheersucker cloth and craped cloth.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
