PURPOSE: To quicken the planning work by conducting linear arrangement of apparatuses, taking into consideration the master and slave relation-ship among the apparatuses and the direction of flow of a fluid, inputting outside dimensions of the apparatuses, data on construction site, legal regulations, etc., and preparing an arrangement plan by using a CAD (computer aided design) or the like. ;CONSTITUTION: In planning the arrangement of apparatuses in a large, chemical plant like a petroleum refining plant by means of a computer, the parenthood among the apparatuses is set up first, based on constraint conditions for the arrangement of the apparatus, and the minimum number of apparatuses, which will become the object of linear arrangement processing, is selected and determined. Next, the apparatus is sorted, according to manufacturing process and the place of arrangement, while the order of precedence of individual apparatuses is determined, based on the direction of flow of the internal fluid and/or on the conditions of connecting piping, in order to conduct linear arrangement of the apparatuses. In addition, the data on the outside dimensions of the apparatuses, the distance between the apparatuses, the shape and area of the site, and limit dimensions prescribed by the high pressure gas regulations or the fire protection laws (in Japan) are inputted. Thus, the arrangement plan of tanks, heat exchangers, and pipe racks PR1 to PR4 for each site 302 to 305 is made.
