CUTTING TOOL MADE OF WHISKER REINFORCED SILICON NITRIDE BASE CERAMICS EXCELLENT IN CHIPPING RESISTANCE

摘要

PURPOSE: To realize extraordinarily excellent cutting life by providing composition of specific elements, forming the mean diameter and the mean length of whisker in a specific range, and constituting a rate of the specific range of whisker out of sintered.compact oriented in the direction in parallel with the cutting face. ;CONSTITUTION: This composition is composed of 0.5-10wt.% of zirconium oxide solidly solving Re oxide of 5-20mol%, 0.05-20wt.% of combined phase consisting of Re-Zr-Al-Si-O-N series glass containing 50-70mol% of Re and 1-5mol% of Zr in rate of metal element containg glass and Re silicate, 10-30wt.% of Al₂O₃ whisker, 0.5-10wt.% of Al₂O₃ grain, and β-Si₃N₄ and unavoidable impurity in the rest, and the mean diameter of the whisker is formed to be 0.1-10μm, the mean length is 1-200μm, and 20-90% of whisker are made into sintered compact oriented in the direction in parallel with a rake face. Hence, when it is used for the cutting blade of a cutting tool, the tool life can be made extraordinarily long.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
