PURPOSE: To obtain an improving agent of renal damage effective for a treatment of renal disease such as acute progressive nephritis and chronicity corpus uteri nephritis, by including acteoside obtained from Rehmannia glutinosa of a herbal medicine as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION: This improving agent of renal damage includes acteoside of the formula (A is caffeoyl) as an active ingredient. Suitably, a daily dose of the compound is preferably 30mg to 2g in a case of oral administration and administered by dividing to several dose. Further, the daily dose is preferably 0.1-600mg in a case of parenteral dose such as intravenous injection, drop-wise intravenous injection, hypodermic injection and intramuscular injection. The compound is obtained by extracting the active ingredient from Rehmannia glutinosa or the same kind plant (Scrophulariaceae) with water, an alcohol, a mixed solvent thereof or a mixed solvent of the water and acetone, removing the solvent from the extract to provide a residue, subjecting the residue to a column chromatography for several times by using at least one dissolution medium selected from the water, methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, chloroform, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, the acetone, benzene and acetonitrile and fractionating the treated residue by a thin layer chromatography.
