PURPOSE:To efficiently survey a submarine terrain with high accuracy in a short time by transmitting a sector-like transmitting beam to the surface of the sea bottom from a transmitter of a marine vessel on the sea, and subsequently, transmitting a transmitting beam so as to intersect with said transmitting beam. CONSTITUTION:A sector-like transmitting beam 5 is transmitted to the surface of the sea bottom from a transmitter attached to the marine vessel on the sea. Subsequently, by a sector-like receiving beam from a receiver, which intersects with said transmitting beam 5, a reflected wave from the surface of the sea bottom is brought to (67mus) scanning instantaneously and a measurement of a submarine terrain in executed. In this regard, at the time of executing the measurement, it is necessary to measure exactly the position of a vessel on the sea. Therefore, by using a light wave range finder, a reflecting mirror on board is collimated, and by a gyrocompass, the directions of the transmitter- receivers 5, 51 are recognized exactly.
