PURPOSE:To obtain a thermosetting resin compsn. providing a condensed polycyclic arom. resin having improved heat resistance by heating a mixture of a specified condensed polycyclic compd., a specified arom. compd. and an acidic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An infusible cured product is formed by heating a mixture of a condensed bi- or polycyclic arom. compd., a mixture thereof or pitches, an arom. compd. having one or more aldehyde groups as a binder and an acidic catalyst at 130-350 deg.C. Examples of the condensed polycyclic arom. compd. include naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene and nuclear-substd. compd. Examples of the arom. aldehyde used as the binder include especially those which have one or more aldehyde groups directly bound to the arom. ring, e.g., benzaldehyde, terephthalaldehyde and nuclear substd. compd. thereof.
