PURPOSE: To provide a silver halide emulsion with high photographic sensitivity by adding the specified amount of an iridium compound between after the completion of particle formation before chemical sensitization and immediately before silver halide formation on the outermost surface. ;CONSTITUTION: Silver halide emulsion comprising silver iodide bromide or silver chloride iodide bromide, in which 1×10-9-1×10-4 mole of an iridium compound per mole of silver halide is added between after the completion of particle formation before chemical sensitization and immediately before silver halide formation on the outermost surface, and silver iodide bromide (the content of silver iodide is 2-15 mole %) equivalent to 1-10% of the base body in terms of silver is formed on the outermost surface is used.
