PURPOSE: To make it possible to recognize printing quality without making print output, to collectively correct character patterns and to automatically correct master characters with respect to a printing font forming device of a printer and a printing font forming method. CONSTITUTION: This printing font forming device has a master character holding section which holds the master characters of a large number of longitudinal and transverse dots per one character, a character pattern forming section 1 (3) which forms the character patterns to be made into the printing font of a printer in accordance with the master characters, a line width-interline spacing table forming section which rearranges the relations between the number of pieces of the line widths of every line width and the number of pieces of the interline spacings of every interline spacing of the formed character patterns as a table, a line width-interline spacing table changing section which changes the line width-interline spacing table and a character pattern forming section 1 (3) which changes the character patterns in accordance with the changed line width-interline spacing table.
