PURPOSE: To improve a recovery rate of mercury and to regenerate costly glass capillaries of leaded glass, etc., by crushing and classifying the glass capillaries used for sealing of mercury of the fluorescent lamps, then treating these crushed capillaries by suspension settling or washing and separating or combination thereof. ;CONSTITUTION: The glass capillaries 2 are charged into a hopper 1 and are introduced by a forcing cylinder 3 to a crusher 4, by which the glass capillaries are crushed. The crushed capillaries are introduced to a separator 5. In the meantime, the coarse splinters separated by a sieve 6 are introduced from a conduit 7 to a horizontal type washing device 8. The glass powders past a sieve 4 are mixed with the mercury separated at the time of the crushing and the mixture is added to a suspension settling chamber 10 from a conduit 9. Further, the coarse splinters adhered with the mercury are washed with the water from a water spraying pipe 14 for washing and are separated to the large pieces and the small pieces by slits 13 in the lower part of a weir 12; thereafter, the small pieces are discharged from a discharge port 15 and are introduced to the suspension settling chamber 10. The mercury settles on the bottom of the vessel and is taken out of a conduit 23.
