PURPOSE:To realize simply fade-out/fade-in in a desired fade pattern by supplying a video signal into a frame memory (field memory) while making the signal corresponding to a video picture and replacing part of the signal easily. CONSTITUTION:When fade-out takes place in the 1st fade pattern 11a, a moving contact 5a of a changeover switch 5 is controlled for the changeover by using a control signal in response to a process signal from a processing circuit 10 and the moving contact 5a is thrown to one fixed contact 5V at first, then a video signal from a frame memory 1 corresponding to the video picture as shown in figure A is obtained as it is at the output side of the moving contact 5a and the moving contact 5a of the changeover switch 5 is thrown to the other fixed contact 5B at a part corresponding to an upper and a lower end background of the pattern as shown in figure B in the 1st frame when fade-out takes place. In this case, a video signal replacing the part corresponding to the background of the pattern shown in the figure B into a white color signal is obtained at the output of the moving contact 5a.
