PURPOSE: To obtain a lowly smoking and lowly toxic polyolefin compound suitable for, e.g. a wire coating material and an electrical part material, improved in mechanical characteristics and having ensured flame retardancy by reducing the amount of a flame-retardant material, especially a hydroxide, added to a halogen-free polyolefin resin material to a possible extent where it is less than the conventional amounts. ;CONSTITUTION: This compound is obtained by adding 80-130 pts.wt. flame retardant comprising a mixture of 100 pts.wt. composite metal hydroxide represented by the formula, Mg1-xM+2x(OH)2 and 1-15 pts.wt. fine carbonaceous material powder to 100 pts.wt. polyolefin resin. In the formula, M+2 stands for at least one kind of divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Mn+2, Fe+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2 and Zn+2; and x is a number satisfying the relation of the formula, 0.001≤x≤0.9.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
