ELECTRODE CLEANING METHOD FOR VACUUM ARC DESCALING AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PURPOSE: To clean the descaling electrodes of a vacuum arc descaling device and to restore descaling performance by inverting the polarities of these electrodes when deposits adhere on the descaling electrodes. ;CONSTITUTION: A hot rolled steel sheet 3 adhered with contaminants, such as oxide scale and oil on its surfaces in a vacuum vessel 1 are arranged to face the plural descaling electrodes 2 to 2" made of water cooled copper. Voltage is impressed between the hot rolled as cathode and the descaling electrodes 2 to 2" as anodes to generate arcs therebetween, by which the surfaces of the hot rolled steel sheet 3 as the cathode are descale and cleaned. The anodes 2 to 2" are inverted in polarity to the cathode for a short time by polarity changing mechanisms 5 to 5" installed between power sources 4 and 4" when the descalability is deteriorated by the deposition of the deposits on the anodes 2 to 2" in long-term use. The arcs are then generated between the auxiliary anodes made of carbon, by which the deposits of the descaling electrodes 2 to 2" are removed and the descaling performance is restored.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
