PURPOSE: To provide a sealed lead-acid battery retainer capable of sufficiently retaining an electrolyte and effectively supplying the electrolyte to positive and negative plates. CONSTITUTION: In a sealed lead-acid battery formed by placing an electrode group comprising a positive plate 1 and a negative plate 2 and a retainer 3 arranged between them in a container 4, the retainer 3 has a low density layer 11 in the central part in the thickness direction and high density layers 10 in both surface layers. The retainer 3 is manufactured in such a way that as a first process, paper making is performed in a stream from the upper part to the lower part of water in which glass fibers are dispersed, the paper is dried to obtain a nonwoven fabric having the high density layer 10 on the lower side and the low density layer 11 on the high density layer 10, and as a second process, the amount of glass fibers dispersed in water is increased than the first process and a stream from the upper part to the lower part of water in which glass fibers are dispersed is speeded up than the first process, and paper making is performed on the low density layer 11.
