PURPOSE: To obtain a material for water barrier useful for electric wire and cable of optical fiber, consisting of a solid substrate and a coating layer which is prepared by blending polymer particles having highly water absorption characteristics with a specific amount of a rubber-based binder and has specific density. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective material consisting of a solid substrate 3 and a coating layer 2 having 0.60-1.05g/cm³ density which is placed on the solid substrate 3, comprises a flexible rubber-based binder 5 and polymer particles 4 having highly water absorption characteristics composed of 20-97wt.% particles having 45-425μm particle diameter per all the particles in a ratio of 10-50%:50-90%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
