PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in quality of a picture caused by inappropriate interpolation by fixing the scanning line interpolation caused by a moving adaptive type scanning line interpolation circuit to inter-line processing by means of an instruction from the external for such video signals as obvious not having inter-field correlation. CONSTITUTION:A high-definition television receiver 31, when video signals obviously not having inter-field correlation are supplied, has in its own central processing unit 32 as a system controller to totally control the whole receiver itself, an interpolation control function to fix scanning line interpolation by the scanning line interpolation circuit 7 to inter-line processing, and when special video signals obtained from a stereoscopic image software are supplied, an instruction from the central processing unit 32 is transmitted to a moving detection circuit 19. The inter-field processing is stopped irrespective of the presence/absence of the moving of an image, and the operation is forcibly switched to inter-line processing. That is, since means that inter- line interpolation is employed for the scanning line interpolation in a moving-picture part, a moving detection signal is spuriously supplied from the central processing unit 32 to the circuit 19 in case of reproducing a special video signal. As a result, to the scanning line interpolation circuit 7 line interpolation processing can be forcibly instructed.
