PURPOSE:To obtain the title carbon black which is improved in dispersibility in rubber or plastic and can impact excellent resiliency to rubber by preparing it so that the mode of its Stokes equivalent diameter as determined by the centrifugal sedimentation analysis may be larger than the value determined from a specified equation and that its tinting power may be lower than the value determined from a specified equation. CONSTITUTION:The title furnace carbon black has an iodine adsorption (IA) of 15-25mg/g and a dibutyl phthalate absorption (DBPA) of 100-150ml/100g, wherein the mode (Dst) of its Stokes equivalent diameter as determined by the centrifugal sedimentation analysis is larger than the value determined from equation I and the tining power is lower than the value determined from equation II. A carbon black which can solve a problem of poor dispersion apt to occur when a large amount of conventional carbon black is added to rubber or plastic and can give excellent resiliency and reinforcing properties during mixing can be obtained. When it is added to a difficultly extrudable member such as a spongy extrudate or a low-hardness rubber article, it can markedly improve the extrudability and can give a rubber composition of a low compression set.
