PURPOSE:To obtain a film excellent in durability and an aesthetic sense by forming a base coat layer containing titanium oxide and a top coat layer of paint consisting of a film forming polymer, fine particulate titanium pigment and a dispersant on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A top coat layer consists of a film forming polymer such as an acrylic resin or an alkyd resin, a dispersing medium such as toluene or xylene and a fine particulate titanium oxide pigment. Herein, the fine particulate titanium oxide pigment has a mean particle size of 0.01 to 0.1mum and a specific surface area due to a BET method of about 20 to 150m2/g and has high transparency. A base coat layer containing titanium oxide having a large particle size is applied to a substrate at first by a conventional coating method and the top coat layer is applied thereto to obtain a film having an aesthetic sense such as a thick film feeling, a depth feeling or a pottery feeling and excellent in durability.
