PURPOSE: To provide the improved binder compsn. for org. ester curing type molding sand to be used for a casting mold forming method for curing the molding sand by org. ester by using a water-soluble phenolic resin as a binder for a refractory granular material. ;CONSTITUTION: This binder compsn. contains the water-soluble phenolic resin and one or ≥2 kinds of phenol compd. monomers of ≥2wt.% and 5wt.% of the solid-component weight of the resin as essential components. The casting mold having a longer pot life than the pot life of the casting mold obtainable by the conventional compsn. is obtd. by using such binder compsn. Consequently, the casting mold is formed without degrading the casting mold strength when the longer pot life is needed, i.e., in the summer time or when a sand temp. is high or at the time of forming the large casting mold and the casting mold having intricate shapes.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
