PURPOSE: To recover rare gas from exhaust gas by adding hydrogen to exhaust gas and converting oxygen in the exhaust gas into steam while balogen into halogenated hydrogen under existence of catalyst. ;CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen is added to exhaust gas introduced into a reaction removing system 18. A noble metal catalyst such as platinum or palladium supported by a support such as silica, alumina, silica alumina, or titania, or a metal oxide catalyst such as chrome oxide or manganese oxide is disposed at the prestage of the reaction removing system 18 so that oxygen and halogen in the exhaust gas react on the added hydrogen according to formula I to be converted into steam and halogenated hydrogen, respectively. A cooling and condensing stage follows to the reaction removing system 18 in order to condensate steam produced through reaction represented by formula I and to remove the condensed water. Hydrogen halogenide produced through reaction shown by formula II is dissolved into the condensed water and removed togther therewith. This method allows recovery of rare gas from exhaust gas discharged from a chemically pumped iodine laser system.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
