PURPOSE: To obtain a sustained release type hair dye composition, excellent in dyeing power with hardly any crocking and fouling on the scalp, hands and fingers. ;CONSTITUTION: A creamy sustained release type hair dye composition is obtained by blending a tar-based acid dye with a specific amount of a higher alcohol (e.g. myristyl alcohol or cetyl alcohol), a higher fatty acid (e.g. palmitic acid or stearic acid) and benzyl alcohol. The pH of the resultant mixture is regulated within the range of 2-5 and its viscosity is regulated within the range of 5,000-20,000cP. This composition is good in coating properties on hair and excellent in dyeing power with hardly any crocking.
