PURPOSE: To provide a picture preservation and retrieval method and a picture preservation and retrieval device capable of performing display at a high speed, reducing the fatigue of a retrieving person and performing efficient page turning retrieval. ;CONSTITUTION: A picture read part 2 reads picture data preserved in a picture preservation part 1 based on the instruction of a user and a retrieval object area display data preparation part 4 prepares the normal display data of a retrieval object area specified by a retrieval object area specifying part 3 among the picture data read by the picture read part 2. A retrieval non-object area display data preparation part 5 prepares the simplified display data of the area other than the retrieval object area specified by the retrieval object area specifying part 3 among the picture data read by the picture read part 2 and a picture display retrieval part 6 synthesizes the display data prepared by the retrieval object area display data preparation part 4 and the display data prepared by the retrieval non-object area display data preparation part 5 and performs page turning display.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
