PURPOSE: To obtain a print having a fixed quality by deciding the exposure by mostly removing a picture element to be removed as a high-saturation picture element and forming second statistics where the picture element is hardly removed as a non high- saturation picture element. ;CONSTITUTION: A photometric digital image signal inputted in an arithmetic part 1034 is inputted in a scanner correction arithmetic part 1061 in the arithmetic part 1034. The arithmetic part 1061 is constituted to correct an influence peculiar to a color scanner 1025 and arithmetically controlled according to an arithmetic control signal from a control part 1030. Based on the 1st statistics, the influence of the high- saturation picture element is decreased and the specified 2nd statistics is obtained from the picture element detected including the picture element of a high-saturation frame whose influence is decreased in the case of obtaining the specified 2nd statistics. The control part 1030 decides the exposure based on exposure correction amount and density for deciding basic exposure transmitted from the arithmetic part 104. Therefore, the high-saturation picture element is removed with high accuracy, and the defective product ratio caused by the influence of the high-saturation-picture element is made low, then the print having the fixed quality is obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
