PURPOSE: To enhance wear resistance and fracture resistance by including a prescribed volume ratio of chromium carbonate as a dispersed phase formative element. ;CONSTITUTION: A cutting tool is formed by a diamond group extra-high pressure sintered material having a composition consisting of 1 to 20vol.% of dispersed phase in which chromium carbonate finely formed is uniformly distributed, and of the remainder of diamond which substantially forms the base. When the content of this dispersed phase is less than 1vol.%, the mutual binding accelerating action of diamond powders at the time of sintering is not sufficiently developed, and also desired excellent wear resistance and fracture resistance cannot be secured. On the other hand, when the content thereof exceeds 20vol.%, the ratio of the dispersed phase interposed between diamond grains becomes too much, and as a result the binding of the diamond grains is hindered, so that the formation of diamond base becomes difficult, and also the securement of excellent fracture resistance becomes difficult.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
