PURPOSE: To provide an open type gas burning instrument, in which an incom plete combustion-preventing device responds properly in accordance with environ ment in use size of a room, ventilating property and the like). ;CONSTITUTION: When incomplete combustion is detected by the composite electromotive force of thermocouples 58, 60, combustion is stopped, however, when the continuous operation time is long, it is decided that the environment in use is contaminated and the composite output operation level of the thermocouples is increased to stop the combustion whereby the combustion is stopped quickly. On the other hand, when the composite electromotive force of the thermocouples has become lower, the time of continuous operation is shortened whereby the combustion is stopped quickly.
