Bird warning device (1) mounted on overhead power transmission lines, partic. the upper lightning conductor cable, which acts as a beacon to indicate the presence of the cable to approaching birds in flight. The beacon (1) is pref. from modified polyamide, is pref. blue-grey in colour and has an outer diameter of pref. between 9 and 12 cm. It comprises an inner C-form section (2) which is slightly smaller in diameter than the cable such that it clamps to the cable when installed, and a beacon or indicator section (3). The beacon elements (3) comprise two bend sections (4) which are axially displaced from each other and are attached to the C-form section (2) by spokes (5), which together with stiffening ribs (6), form two rigid sections (7). These two rigid sections (7) are connected by a flexible section (8) which acts as a hinge and enables the C-section to be opened for installation on the cable.
