A locking device suitable for use in an automatic apparatus for the production of the windings in coils, especially suitable for dipole and quadrupole magnets, said windings being made on an elongated winding form 2, supported by an underlying support bar 3, it comprises an essentially cylindrical element 1 with longitudinal axis parallel to that of the form 2 and placed underneath the bar 3, provided with a lateral bracket 4 which reproduces the half-profile of the bar 3 and of the form 2 at a distance from said elements equal to the height of a central insert 5 of the form 2 so as to produce a gap 10 between the bracket 4 and the form 2. Within this gap 10 there travels a carriage 9 actuated, by means of a guide 11 produced in the bracket 4, by a pneumatic cylinder 7 placed on the outside of the bracket 4, said element 1 being on the other hand actuated and linked to the bar 3 by means of a pneumatic motor 15 essentially coaxial to it and secured to the bar 3.
