AUTOMATIC APPARATUS FOR SHAPING WINDINGS FOR COILSPARTICULARLY SUITABLE TO DIPOLE OR QUADRUPOLE MAGNETSAbstractAn apparatus is described for substantiallyautomatically shaping the windings of coils in whichthe conductor is mainly directed longitudinally,parallel to the coil axis, with ends having differentradius size, in any case relatively narrow, as ithappens e.g. in the dipole or quadrupole magnets.The apparatus comprises a stationary bed to which asupport bar for supporting a winding holder andform is mounted for an alternate rotation of about180°. Along a side of this bed and parallel to thesupport bar a carriage can run with a reciprocatingmotion, having a cantilevered bracket for mountingan arm rotatable around a vertical axis to supporta supply reel of a superconductor to be wound ontothe coil. The three movements are mutually interpolatedand programmable by means of a CPU, at each side ofthe winding holder there being further provided amultiplicity of ram elements to push the last unwoundlength of superconductor to the correct position,every time at opposed sides, and to keep the previouslyformed turns at such a position, in cooperationwith matching curve members. Intermediate tiltablesupports are also provided, to follow the supportbar movement of rotation without tampering with thesuperconductor laying and fitting, respectively ateither side of the winding holder, as well as endpressing devices.- 1 -
