The device for prevention of gastro-oesophageal reflux consists of a collar-shaped prosthesis in bio-compatible plastic and has an internal compartment which can be inflated from outside the patient's body with saline solution by puncturing a reservoir in a subcutaneous sac connected to the device by a small tube. The special shape of the device and its anatomical location (between the base of the stomach and the diaphragm) make it possible for the pressure exerted on the oesophago-gastric join to increase and/or diminish with the increase and/or reduction in intra-gastric pressure and so to prevent reflux of the stomach contents into the oesophagus.
