GRADUAL RELEASE STRUCTURES MADE FROM FIBER SPINNING TECHNIQUES

A delivery system and a process for makingthe system is provided for the gradual release of anactive agent. The system comprises an active agent anda wall material. The delivery system is formed by meltspinning a mixture of particles of active agent andwall material into a fiber. The fiber has a longi-tudinal dimension and a cross sectional dimension, thecross sectional dimension being no greater than about 1mm. The fiber has an exterior surface. The particlesof active agent are dispersed throughout the wallmaterial such that the particles of active agent aregradually released from the fiber when the fiber iscontacted with a solvent specific to the active agent.
