Transmission Power Control Method of a Spread-Spectrum Communication System, and Spread-Spectrum Communication System Employing the Control Method

A transmission power control method of a spread-spectrumcommunication system which determines transmission power inaccordance with a transmission power control bit. Thetransmission power control bit is extracted at a base station froma signal sequence obtained by receiving a signal transmitted froma mobile station, and by despreading and demodulating the receivedsignal. When the same value of the transmission power control bitis consecutively received, the transmission power of the basestation is controlled in accordance with transmission powercontrol quantities which are predetermined in accordance with theconsecutive number of receptions of the same value of thetransmission power control bit. This is because the consecutivereceptions of the same value of the transmission power control bitsuggests that the received power of the other party (the mobilestation in this case) changes greatly. Thus, an amount of anincrement or a decrement in the transmission power is increasedwith the duration of the consecutive receptions. This makes itpossible for the transmission power control to follow suddenchanges in propagation paths.
