PROCESS FOR EXTRACTING ALKALOIDS, IN PARTICULAR LUPANIN, FROM ALKALOID-CONTAINING PLANTS

A process is disclosed for extracting high purity alkaloids from plants in a simple and economic manner. An alkaloid extract or a fraction of alkaloid extract is dissolved in water, if it is not yet available as an aqueous solution. The aqueous alkaloid extract is set at an alkaline pH value. Liquid/liquid extraction with an ether is then carried out and the organic phase is separated from the aqueous phase. The alkaloid lupanin is almost entirely found in the organic phase, whereas other alkaloids contained in the initial extract are found in the aqueous phase.
