In a switching system consisting of central section with central switching network and central coordination processor and of line trunk groups connected to the switching network and having in each case a group switch and a group processor, a control channel extends between coordination processor, on the one hand, and each of the group processors, on the other hand, via which the former can at any time access each of the latter. When an entire switching system or only single line trunk groups are taken into operation, the coordination processor loads the group processors with peripheral data which comprise switching program information items, on the one hand, and line data, on the other hand. In the coordination processor, a program-controlled data loading device is provided which, for running various data loading processes, successively calls up corresponding data from various parts of a central memory, arranges these data in a transmission order determined in accordance with the program and combines them in such a manner that informationless filling data are avoided during the data loading process.
