The treatments of purification or bleaching of aqueous liquids are carried out with the aid of purifying agents consisting of powder of certain active carbons in a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol jacket. These treatments, which are carried out without any carbon powder being blown into the air, do not leave any detectable trace of polyvinyl alcohol in the treated liquids. Application to the bleaching of stained white wines and of sweet juices.
