Material (33) made as a thin layer between two faces, a first face (31) and a second face (32), and intended to form a third layer of a transparent sight which includes a first layer constituting a screen and a second layer constituting a layer of significant thickness in that the material (33) consists of a formable transparent polymer matrix having a refractive index and including microcavities (34), the microcavities consisting of a transparent material (37) different from that of the matrix, this material having two refractive indices depending on the value of an electric field across it. For a first value of the field, the refractive index of the material (37) is equal to that of the matrix and, for a second value of the field, the value of this index is greater than that of the matrix, a set of transparent electrodes (35,36) being associated with each microcavity (34).
