A process for the selective hydrogenation of 2-20 C hydrocarbons contg. mono-unsatd. olefins and/or aromatics and 1 polyunsatd. hydrocarbon corresp. to an acetylenic or diene cpd. The hydrocarbon, at least partly in liq. phase, and H2 circulate in a given direction in a reactor contg. 1 fixed catalyst bed (or a finely divided solid). The reactor has 1 inlet for the fluid mixt. comprising the hydrocarbon cut and H2,with 1 outlet for the hydrogenated prod., and comprises a static mixer upstream of the outlet.
