The wheel has a number of symbols (9) exceeding by at most half the number of compartments (5) are positioned on a symbol ring rotating in relation to the rotor (3) and positioned concentrically to the roulette wheel. The symbols are distributed in sectors in the symbol ring, with an angular range equalling that of the compartments. The distance between the symbols is an integral of the angular space between two adjacent compartments. The periphery of the rotor defining the compartments forms the deepest part of the roulette wheel. A mechanical or electronic stop stops the rotor in a non-operating position in which each compartment and one sector of the symbol ring are in the same angular part.
