A device is claimed for supporting a preformer (1) fabricated in an installation for fabricating or recharging preforms (1) with a central support (2) comprising: (a) a means of rotation (3) around a horizontal axis (4) having two mounting points (3a, 3b) between which the central support (2) is mounted; (b) a plasma torch and filler material feed system (5) arranged radially to the central support (2), and having a relative axial translation movement parallel to the central support (2) for the prodn. of the preformer (1) around this central support (2); and (c) a controlled support system (7) consisting of some complimentary support points (8) localised between the mounting points (3a, 3b) for the preformer (1) during fabrication or recharging. The process used for cutting the preformer using this device is also claimed, together with the central preformer support used.
