The present invention relates to a novel use of a doped tantalate of yttrium, lutetium or gadolinium as a light emitting end in low voltage light emission. The tantalate used can be doped with niobium or a recrystallized element selected from the group consisting of praseodymium, europium, terbium and thulium, in particular. The tantalates of the present invention can be used in the fabrication of full field emission displays.
