PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve luminescence effectiveness and electric conductivity suitable in a voltage range of 200-800 V by using an yttrium-, lutetium-, or gadolinium- doped tantalate as a luminescent material in producing an apparatus which uses low-voltage luminescnence. ;SOLUTION: An yttrium-, lutetium-, or gadolinium-doped tantalate is used as a luminescent material in producing an apparatus which uses low-voltage luminescence. A pentavalent element, such as niobium, is listed as a substitute for tantalum. In addition, a rare earth element which is luminescent in the visible range and selected from among praseodymium, europium, terbium, and thulium can be used as a dopant in place of yttrium, lutetium, or gadolinium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
