PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF SOL FOR PREPARING MULLITE CERAMIC FIBER

The sol for mullite ceramic fiber is prepared by (A) forming a silicon alkoxide sol by adding a half of the total amount of acetylacetone and a half or all of the total amount of hydrochloric acid into the mixture of silicon alkoxide and alcohol, (B) forming an aluminum alkoxide sol by adding the remained a half of the total amount of acetylacetone into the mixture of aluminum alkoxide and alcohol, (C) mixing the obtained silicon alkoxide and aluminum alkoxide in the equivalent ratio of 3:1, and (D) in the case of using half of the total amount of hydrochloric acid in preparing the silicon alkoxide, adding the remained half of it into the mixture (C). The total amount of acetylacetone is 0.3-2.4 equivalent ratio to silicon alkoxide, and the total amount of hydrochloric acid is 0.3-0.4 weight ratio to silicon alkoxide. The produced sol is useful for mullite fiber for high temperature.
