The present invention relates to a phase compression / decompression coprocessor (410) integrated on a single chip. The control bus has a control unit 418 connected to a number of other special purpose processing units 414, 420, 422, 424, 426, 428 via an internal global bus 416. Each processing unit is specifically designed to adjust only a certain step in the compression and segmentation process.
