The stepwise slots are made during the second and subsequent seasons after the third grass cut with continuous movement. A wide slot with inclined walls is formed in the topsoil, and a narrow slot with focal reservoirs is cut in the subsurface horizon. Every year the slots are cut deeper from 0.35 to 0.60 m, the wide slot cross section is reduced by 15-25%. And the spacing between the slots is decreased from 1.8-2.0 to 0.5-0.7 m. The device is provided with a pillar, a widener, and a chisel. The pillar is a scalene triangle. The widener is located in a hole provided in the center of the pillar. The widener is a combination of two hollow rings conjugate at the crossing point of the triangle median and longer side and spaced apart at the shorter side.
