In a sublimation transfer printing process, a thermoplastic film is placed between the transfer material and the object to be printed. This film has no or little affinity for the dye to be transferred and softens at a temp. below the transfer temp. The array is heated to the transfer temps., so that the dye particles migrate through the film to the object. Also claimed are the use of this process for printing objects having a surface layer which is transparent and has a reflecting metal backing; and the prints, including prints with metal effect per se.
