Sludge disposal process by incineration of dewatered and dried sludge granulate particles

Process for the disposal of sludge (A), esp. from sewage works, comprises the following steps: (1) (A) is dewatered to 30-50% dryness to form a sludge cake (A1) which is crushed to form a granulate (D) consisting of 3-10 mm. size particles; (2) (D) is dried at 20-50 deg.C to 70-99% dryness in the drying zone (18); and (3) the dry granulate (E) is incinerated in a combustion zone (22) and the exhaust gas (G) is suddenly cooled to 30-50 deg.C in a mixing chamber (32). The device for carrying out the process is also claimed, comprising a dryer (18) for (D), pref. a low temp. dryer, and a combustion zone (22) following the dryer with an exhaust gas exit (26) situated before a mixing chamber (32) for fresh air intake.
