New supported catalysts, processes for their preparation and their use for the polymerization of conjugated dienes in the gas phase

Supported catalysts, consisting of (A) a rare earth alcoholate of formula (R1O)3M (I), a rare earth carboxylate of formula (R1COO)3M (II), a complex ÄR2-CO-C(R3)2-CO-R4Ü3M (III) of rare earth and dicarbonyl cpd., and/or an addn. cpd. MX3.y(donor) (IV) of rare earth halide with an oxygen or nitrogen donor: (B) an Al trialkyl, a dialkyl-Al hydride and/or an alumoxane of formula (V)-(VIII): Al(R5)3 (V) HAl(R5)2 (VI) R5)AlR5-O)nAl(R5)2 (VII) (AlR5-O)n+1 (VIII); M = trivalent rare earth metal with anatomic no. of 57-71; R1, R2, R5 = 1-20C alkyl, 3-20C cycloalkyl or 6-20C aryl; R3 = as for R1, R2, R5, or H; R4 = as for R1, R2, R5, or OR1 of N(R1)2; in formula (III), R2, R3 and R4 may form part of a 3-20C aliphatic or aromatic ring system; X = Cl, Br or I; y = 1-6; n = 1-50; (C) another Lewis acid, and (D) active carbon with a specific BET surface of more than 100 m2/g, a particle size of 0.1-400 microns, a Hg pore vol. of 0.3-3 ml/g and an ash content of 0-20%. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of these catalysts, by mixing components (A)-(D) in inert organic solvent and/or diluent at -20 to 80 deg.C in any sequence and then removing the solvent/diluent by a suitable method.
