A photoelectric coder is disclosed for scanning optical structures. The photoelectric coder is designed in such a way that electric signal processing components (7) for signals emitted by at least one photoreceiver (6) are mounted on a transparent substrate (2). Only the reference structure (3) is mounted on the side of the transparent substrate (2) that faces the optical structure to be explored, whereas all other components mounted on the substrate are located on its opposite side.
