The device includes e.g. two cylindrical mirrors (1,2). Radiation (S) to be coupled in is concentrated via one cylinder mirror having the input surfaces of the radiation conducting elements (L) arranged on the focal line of the mirror. Alternatively, a combination of the two cylinder mirrors can be used to concentrate the radiation at the input surface or surfaces of one or more radiation conducting elements. Radiation emanating from one or more radiation conducting elements can be incident on a combination of two cylinder mirrors. The radiation conducting element can be a dense, rigid or flexible, rod-shaped radiation transmitting element of optional cross-section or a hollow rod-shaped conductor of any cross-section.
